RESEARCH:

1. Choose an artist or designer that is well-established so that you do not have difficulty finding information. But realize that this person needs to be someone that inspires you - someone whose work has interested you in the past. They do not need to be a photographer.

2. Go to the Otis library to find information

Appropriate sources include interviews, articles, essays, books.

You need at least 5 sources from any of the following:

- any of the libraries databases @

http://www.otis.edu/life_otis/library/databases.html

(this includes jstor, elibrary, lexisnexis, etc)

- any book in the library

- the source needs to feature the artist prominently, that is, they are either the subject, or one of the main subjects, of the piece

3. by next week you must have:

- all five sources, printed out

- an outline of your presentation

- jpgs of 3 significant pieces posted to the blog

You must address the following talking points: (At least 3 sentences per question)

1. what is this artist's work about?

2. how has the time period (politics, culture) in which they lived influenced their work?

3. how has their work been described by critics?

4. how has their work changed over time?

5. to what groups or larger movements do they belong?

6. what are the major strengths and weaknesses in their work?

These need to be typed and printed, ready at the beginning of class on Nov. 9

You may begin finding sources today in class.
